Knee Surgery

Steve got knee surgery a few weeks ago. He tore his meniscus while playing basketball last year. The surgery was scheduled for 10:45am and after waiting a half hour they let us know they were behind and were going to be another 3 hours! So that was a bummer but they gave me a free lunch pass and gave Steve 4 free movie passes. The surgery went great but we found out the hard way that Steve does not deal with anesthesia well. We were in the recovery room for 5 hours while Steve threw up every half hour. So after 10 hours in the hospital and running out of diapers for Spencer we finally went home.

The Doctor said he's healing well and should be back to playing sports in another few weeks.

They had to shave Steve's leg where they were going the surgery, and he had to write a yes on it to make sure they did it on the right leg. The hair is still growing back and Steve said it's very itchy.

Before the surgery they had Steve wear these little booties. Steve was excited because he said they looked like ninja shoes.

This was his leg all wrapped up after the surgery.

*Warning* If you are eating or get grossed out by stories about baby poop do not continue reading...

Since I work at Utah Community Credit Union on Saturdays and Steve has the day off, we switch roles and I try to get as much sleep as possible while Steve is in charge of getting up with Spencer and taking care of him during the night and when he wakes up Saturday morning. So this morning around 6:15 we hear Spencer playing in his crib but let him be until he starts whining. So about 15 mins later he starts crying like he wants us to get him so Steve gets up to go get him. This is where the story begins-and I will tell it from my point of view...

Steve goes in and after a little bit I start hearing comments like "ewww poopy", "Spencer!!! Sicky sicky sicky" "gross so poopy" etc etc. And after a while Steve's yells to me that Spencer had a really bad messy diaper and that poop is everywhere. Well Spencer usually has a bad poopy diaper so I didn't think much of it. I responded "That's great". Well Steve's ranting and raving went on for a long time and I begin thinking, "geez I know it's a bad diaper and he doesn't do this very often, but how long does it take to change a diaper?" Then I hear the bathtub running. I was impressed that Steve was giving him a bath but also thought "is that really necessary?" So after a while I hear Steve put Spencer in his bouncer and he comes in the room holding Spencer's PJ's-which last night he wore more of a night gown type outfit. It was completely covered with poop. I guess Spencer pooped in his diaper and then took it off and was playing with it. There was poop covering Spencer from head to toe. It was also all over his bedding, his crib and little on the wall.

Ok I guess Steve wasn't exaggerating after all. :)

3 months old to 3 days old. My how they change!

This is just a funny video. Spencer likes to dance with daddy but I swear he knows when the camera is on him because he starts getting upset everytime.

3 month check-up

Spencer turned 3 months today. And he visited the doctor. This was supposed to be a 2 month check up but we got a bit behind. Spencer was a good boy at the doctor's but he didn't really like being poked and prodded. At first he was looking at the doctor with pleasant curiosity but as soon as he started poking around his stomach and little boy parts to make sure he's developing correctly he started freaking out. But I would too. And my suspicions were correct-Spencer is a BIG boy! At a little over 15 lbs he is in the 80 percentile for his age. And at 26.5 inches he is in the 100 percentile! But the doctor said he's perfectly healthy and gave me some good advice for his dry skin and cradle cap (which although it's getting better is still lingering) He said for the cradle cap to use adult dandruff shampoo everyday for about 2 weeks and it should go away. I'll let you know how is goes.

On his own

Spencer has been growing so fast that he's getting too big for his basinet. So last night we had him sleep in his crib for the first time. I was a little nervous that I wouldn't hear him when he woke up but our monitors work great and last night went really smoothly (knock on wood it will happen again)And it was actually nice becuase he usually starts squirming for 5 to 30 minutes before he actually wakes up or sometimes he would just start squirming because of something he was dreaming about and after a few mintues would go back to sleep. Whenever he would do that it would take me up and I usually couldn't go completely back to sleep till he woke up or stopped squirming. But with him in the other room it wasn't really loud enough over the monitor to wake me up. So I got to sleep soundly until he started crying and was truly ready to be awake and eat.

Also I wanted to tell you some of the funny pet names Steve has for Spencer. He has tons but these are the only ones I can remember right now:

Poopy Teddy Bear
Drooly Monster
Graby Gorilla
Chubby Chubster
My big boy

Steve is so cute with Spencer. And Spencer loves playing and cuddling with his dad.
